Aboriginal Art - Karen Lovett - Assorted Art Works

Karen Lovett is a 54 Year old Proud Gunditjmara Woman from Portkand, Victoria, Cotemporary Aboriginal Artist, Mother of 4 Children and of 1 grandchild.

Karen is also part of the Stolen Generations and never acknowledged her Aboriginality until the age of 36 years old. She was brought up in Government institutions, on and off from the age of 4 months old until the age of 18 years old.

At 36 years old, her non Indigenous mother in law took her to Kangan Institutes Indigenous Education Centre in Broadmeadows to learn about her culture and why she was painting and to learn about her family history. Karen did certificate 1 to 4 in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts, then did her teaching Certificate and taught the class for the next nine years while also delivering Cultural Awareness Training to DHS Around Victoria.

Unfortunately Karen had to give up Teaching in 2019 due to illness. She still does her Artwork, paintings and share her knowledge to the Community when called upon.
